Gorilla Trekking
The highlight of any visit to Bwindi is trekking through the dense forest in search of the mountain gorillas. This trek can take anywhere from 1 to 8 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location. Once you find the family, you can spend up to one hour observing them in their natural environment.

Permits: Gorilla trekking requires permits, which should be booked well in advance due to limited availability. Permits are essential for conservation efforts.

Best time to visit: The dry season from June to September and December to February is ideal for trekking, as the trails are more accessible.

Batwa Cultural Experience
The Batwa are the indigenous people of the Bwindi forest, once known as “Pygmies.” A cultural visit to a Batwa village offers a fascinating glimpse into their traditional lifestyle and practices. You'll learn about their forest-dwelling history and their close relationship with nature.

Nature Walks & Birdwatching
For those interested in exploring the park's rich biodiversity on foot, nature walks and birdwatching tours are available. With over 350 bird species, Bwindi is a paradise for birdwatchers, particularly for spotting endemic species like the African green broadbill and Grauer’s rush warbler.

By Air

The most convenient way to reach Bwindi is to fly into Kisoro or Kahihi Airstrips via a charter flight from Entebbe International Airport or Kigali International Airport in Rwanda. There are also scheduled flights into Kisoro from Entebbe. From the airstrip, it’s a short drive to the park.

By Road

From Kampala or Entebbe, Bwindi is approximately a 7-10 hour drive. The roads are often bumpy and winding, but the journey offers spectacular views of the Ugandan countryside. If you prefer a more scenic route, you can combine your trip with a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park or Lake Bunyonyi.

June to September (Dry Season) – Ideal for trekking, with drier trails and better wildlife visibility.

December to February (Dry Season) – Another excellent time for trekking and other outdoor activities, with more accessible trails.

March to May (Wet Season) – While the park can be less crowded, the trails can be muddy and challenging during the rainy season. However, this is also the best time for birdwatching and a quieter, more serene experience.
