You will be picked up from your beach Hotel early in the morning at around 0700hrs and the journey continues via
Mombasa towards Nairobi to the entrance gate of the first national park.
After a rest, the Tsavo East adventure begins! Red earth, natural paths, bush savannah
and the first wild animals give the impression of wild Africa.
The first game drive gives you the real safari feeling! You will have lunch at the Ashnil
Aruba Lodge/Sentrim Tsavo Camp. This is where you settle in and take your midday rest during the hottest
time of the day.
Animal to be spotted
After lunch you will relax then at 1600 hrs. begin spotting animals where you may be
able to see a wide variety of wild animals.
Animals expected comprise, lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, serval cats,
kongoni, kudu, oryx, impala, hyena, gazelle, buffalo and the “red” elephants
(Colored.
by the reddish soil which they apply on their bodies during sand bathing).
Around 500 bird species have been observed in the park, including ostrich and
several species of migratory birds.
Tsavo East National Park
Tsavo East, covering an area of 13474 sq. km is famous for some of the largest
herds of elephants in Kenya.
The elephants seem to have a red color, just like many other animals in the
park, which is caused by the red dust which they spray on themselves against
insects or parasites.
Lion of Tsavo
The lions of Tsavo owe their fame to the book and movie “The Man-eaters of
Tsavo”. Here a few lions ate several railroad workers during early 20th
century. The lions were later shot dead. It seems the reason they attacked
people were because of their bad teeth, which made it difficult for them to chew
buffalo or gazelle meat.
At around 1830hrs drive back to the Lodge/Camp of you choice for dinner and overnight.
We’ll be up early again to make the most of our day. This is a per-breakfast exploration of the park, for us… and the wildlife. And we’ll all enjoy the deepening colours of the land as the sun burns off the early morning dew.
Later, after the delicious fortitude of a safari breakfast, we’ll strike out for Mzima Springs. This unexpected oasis is fed by crystal-clear waters providing a living habitat for aquatic and land creatures. Its lush greenery stands in marked relief from the rugged plains of the park.
We’ll step from our 4 x 4 Jeep and take a nature walk under the raffia-lined shores, looking for hippo, crocodile, colorful fish and birds. Terrestrial wildlife flocks here as well, so be on guard for zebra and giraffe wandering amongst the acacia trees.
