Kenya Amboseli & Tsavo East Safari from Nairobi

Amboseli & Tsavo East Safari Itinerary

We will pick up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or airport early in the morning and drive south through the scenic Kenyan countryside towards Amboseli National Park. The drive will last you approximately 5 hours before arriving in this world renowned national park. Your lunch will be served at the Lodge or Camp.

Amboseli national park

Amboseli National Park; covering approximately 390sq. km of swampy area boasts the largest elephant herds as they roam around the swamps and the foot of Africa’s highest mountain!

Physical attractions

Other physical attractions include Lake Amboseli, the Observation Hill which allows a panoramic view of better part of this park overlooking Enkongo Narok swamp with its schools of hippos as well as herds of Elephants! For the avid ornithologists, this swamp does not disappoint with its prolific fauna.

Wildlife

Other animals include buffaloes, hippos and a variety of waterfowls like pelican, Egyptian goose, and jacana. You equally have a chance of spotting leopard, cheetah, wild dogs, giraffe, zebra, lion, mongoose, hyrax, dik- dik, lesser kudu, and nocturnal porcupine.

After lunch relax up to 1600hrs then embark on an evening game drive, the park is famously known for being the best in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephant among other wildlife species.
At around 1800hrs proceed back to the lodge of your choice for dinner and overnight stay.

Safari Accommodation Options in Amboseli National Park

Enjoy an early morning game drive when wildlife is most active and Kilimanjaro views are often at their clearest. After breakfast, depart Amboseli and proceed to Tsavo East National Park. The drive will last approximately 4 hours before arriving at Tsavo East national Park in time for lunch at Lodge or Camp.
After lunch you will relax then at around 1530hrs begin spotting animals where you may be able to see a wide variety of animals.

Animal expected to be spotted

Lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, serval cats, kongoni, kudu, oryx, impala, hyena, gazelle, buffalo and the “red” elephants (colored by the reddish soil which they apply on their bodies during sand bathing).

Birds

Around 500 bird species have been observed in the park, including ostrich and several species of migratory birds.
Tsavo East is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Kenya. The elephants seem to have red colour, just like many other animals in the park, which is caused by the red dust which they tend to spray themselves on against insects or parasites.

Man Eaters

The lions of Tsavo owe their fame to the book and movie “The Man-eaters of Tsavo”. Here, a few lions ate several railroad workers during early 20th century. The lions were later shot dead.
It seems the reason they attacked people was because of their dental arrangement, which made it difficult for them to tear off buffalo’s or gazelle’s meat.
At around 1830hours drive back to the lodge/camp of choice for dinner and overnight stay.

Safari Accommodation Options in Tsavo East National Park

Early morning game drive in the park. This game drive allows you to see nocturnal animals as they retreat to their hideouts.
After breakfast depart for Mombasa or Diani beach or North Coast arriving at the beach hotel at around 1430hrs.
